I’ve decided to play a game called how many packs of sugar is in that food? A “pack” of sugar refers to one pouch of the sugar you get at restaurants and coffee shops. In speaking with friends and family, many do not relate to or understand measurements like “grams”, “ounces” or “liters”. Therefore, to make measurements more visual, I refer to grams of sugar as in “packs” (each pack has ~4 grams of sugar) and ounces/liters as in “short” (8oz), “tall” (12oz), “grande”(16oz), or “venti” (20oz).
Today’s game: How many packs of sugar is in a Starbucks grande (16oz) Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream and No chocolate drizzle?
Answer: 11 packs of sugar!
Starbucks Hot Chocolate Ingredients: Mocha syrup and steamed milk with vanilla syrup.
Short Starbucks hot chocolate w/ whipped cream= 6 packs
Tall Strabucks hot chocolatew/ whipped cream = 8 packs
Grande Starbucks hot chocolate w/ whipped cream = 11 packs
Venti Starbucks hot chocolate w/ whipped cream = 14 packs
Instead: Ask for Skinny Hot Chocolate with “no-sugar vanilla syrup” or Hot Chocolate with “no sugar, no syrup” (add your own pack of sugar).
Or you can Try this recipe at home! A nice cup of low calorie hot cocoa:
Mix 1 cup of microwaved hot skim milk with 1 Tablespoon unsweetened dark chocolate cocoa powder and 1/2 pack of sugar.
