I’m sure you’ve heard about the study which showed that volunteering is good for the heart right? Today, I want to share with you a small non-profit organization called Soap Cycling.
Soap cycling is a charity organization founded by HKU senior lecturer, David Bishop. His goal was not only to recycle soap from the hospitality industry (soap that would have otherwise ended up as waste) but also to give his students an opportunity to obtain working experience. Yep, Soap Cycling is run by HKU students. I had a few opportunities to volunteer with them and I have to say they are a wonderful bunch of students. They’re highly motivated and most importantly, professional.
It was fun sorting and scraping the mounds of soap, although I have to admit not the most sanitary of circumstances. Thank goodness for gloves and a mask! It’s all good though because at the end of the day, I know the soaps will improve the sanitation and hygiene in underprivileged regions around the world. I’m all about volunteering for NGO’s who care about people and the environment. ❤
